About Latchkey
What we are building
AI coding tools and agents need API keys, but plaintext .env files and shell history are a poor fit for workflows where models, scripts, and MCP servers all touch credentials. Latchkey is a local vault plus CLI: you store ciphertext on disk, unlock with your OS keychain or a passphrase, and use latchkey run to pass secrets into child processes without printing them to the terminal.
The hosted site at modexventures.com/latchkey handles subscriptions, licence issuance, and optional services such as leak scan checkout. The vault itself is not a cloud sync product — secret values are not uploaded to us in plaintext.
Local-first by design
Encryption boundaries, threat model notes, and CLI behaviour are documented in the repository and on the Security page. We describe what the software does today rather than implying certifications or audits we have not completed.
